Galway liegt an der Westküste Irlands am nordöstlichen Ufer der Galway Bay und ist eine der jüngsten Städte Irlands. Galway gilt als inoffizielle Hauptstadt des Westens von Irland, der die Countys Galway, Mayo und Roscommon umfasst. Stadt und County gehören zur Provinz Connacht.
