From March to October, the Jasper SkyTram takes visitors from lowlands outside the town of Jasper to a 7,500-foot-high station near the top of The Whistlers, an imposing mountain that forms a familiar backdrop to the town. The peak's oddly pluralized name refers to the noise made by a multitude that populates these slopes: hoary marmots. You can count on hearing this Rocky Mountain rodents' shrill serenade if you choose to continue after your excursion on Canada's highest cable car—a handy hiking trail leads from the SkyTram's stopping point to the summit, which stands about 600 feet higher in elevation.
