The split coloration of the distant Cuernos del Paine pairs well with the contrasting hues seen here at Lake Pehoé on an orangey autumn day. Fed by glaciers via the Paine River—whose name comes from the Tehuelche word for blue—Pehoé is known for its brilliant turquoise tint, muted here under gray clouds but accented by the brilliant Patagonian fall foliage. As for the Cuernos' double-color job, that big stripe through their middle was stripped by glaciers long ago, leaving a lengthy light-colored patch of bare granite.
